Mis- words

Remember that the prefix added to words to show that they have been done wrongly or badly (misunderstand, miscount, misspell) has only a single s. New words beginning with mis- are quite often coined, and so they won’t appear in your spell-checker for a while. A recent addition is mis-sell, as in the recent scandals over mortgage and pensions mis-selling.
