Percentages

Use the % symbol, with no space between it and the number, and if you need to spell out “per cent”, use two separate words. Remember too, that percentages and percentage points are different. If 10% of policy-holders were making claims, then a 10% rise in the proportion would mean 11% were making claims, while an increase of ten percentage points would bring the proportion to 20%.
