Split infinitives

Split infinitives

The most famous split infinitive comes from Star Trek: “to boldly go where no man has gone before.” There is no grammatical reason not to split up the infinitive (“to go” in this case) but it is so widely and seriously disapproved of that it is best to avoid split infinitives wherever you can. The most natural solution is usually to put the adverb (“boldly” in this case) after the infinitive.
