Politicians here in the UK are deeply distrusted by the voting public. Terrifyingly, fewer than 20% of voters report that they trust politicians to tell the truth. To say that politicians have an authenticity problem is an understatement.
How refreshing, then to see this video today from Tom Watson, Labour’s Deputy Leader, in response to the news that seven Labour MPs have split off from the party, citing as their reasons antisemitism, bullying and Brexit.
Watson’s video is communication in the raw, and political communication at its best. It’s not smooth; it’s not perfectly articulated; he occasionally stumbles. But that just enhances the power of his heartfelt message.
This is pure statesmanship.
